Episode 18: Ultrasound and Maternal Health (Part II); Importance of Ultrasound in Improving Women’s Health during Pregnancy
More women in Kilifi County, where we are carrying out our Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Project, are aware of and embrace the significance of ultrasound imaging during pregnancy. Aside from ultrasounds, in the past, due to their traditional believes, even attending neonatal clinics was unacceptable to the community. However, through civic education and health talks on the importance of ultrasounds to mothers and their unborn children, this imaging is no longer an unknown phenomenon to many women in Kilifi. Majority of pregnant women in the county have at least one ultrasound during their pregnancy, as recommended by the World Health Organisation. Learn more about this positive shift in Kilifi and the ways in which ultrasounds can help save the lives of women and their babies. Click play to listen to the full episode.
